The Ridgeway National Trail crosses five counties on its journey from Overton Hill in Wiltshire via Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire to arrive at the Ivinghoe Beacon in Hertfordshire. It also goes through two areas of outstanding natural beauty, the North Wessex Downs and the Chilterns
The Ridgeway National Trail in its current form is but a small section of an ancient route that was thought to extend from Lyme Regis in Dorset all the way to The Wash near Hunstanton in Norfolk.
It is possible to walk a full version of the route by combining the Wessex Ridgeway, The Ridgeway, The Ickneild Way and the Peddars Way National Trail.
