Reviews of walking boots, approach shoes and sandals and walking socks

Darn Tough Hike / Trek sock review

The packaging that comes with these socks is pretty impressive

Unconditional lifetime Guarantee

"If you can wear these socks out, we'll replace them. Free of charge. No questions asked. For life. When you're really serious about something you make it yourself." - Ric Cabot.

The wool in the socks is 100% fine gauge Merino for highly breathable, itch free, next to skin comfort that naturally regulates temperature, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter.

Performance Fit

  • Socks stay put and in place all day.
  • No slipping
  • No bunching
  • No blisters
  • No hot spots

Micro Crew "Light Cushion" Cushions bottom of foot.

We've used the above as a tick list for the review and this is what we think!

They are highly breathable with no sweating and certainly no itchy feet.

We used a pair of large socks for the review Euro 43-45 UK 9.5 - 11.5 on a UK size 10 foot and they felt tight but not uncomfortable against the skin.

darn tough hike trek

The socks have been worn for 7 continuous days and have stayed in place throughout, not slipped, not bunched, no hot spots and certainly no blisters just as they said.

Because of how tight they were on a UK size 10 foot we are going to retest on a larger foot as well.

We have been pleasantly surprised by how much cushion they give to the sole of the foot from such a thin sock.

Great socks! We would recommended them! Will let you know if we ever wear them out!

Merrell Jungle Moc Shoes review

It is with great sadness that I have to report that my pair of Merrell Jungle Moc Shoes have finally started to fall apart! This is after almost 2 years of constant use. If I haven't had walking boots on then I've had these shoes on.

Merrell Norsehund Omega mid waterproof walking boot review

We have taken these boots to the Lake District in Cumbria and into the Howardian Hills in North Yorkshire.

What better place to test the waterproof nature of the boots than the Lake District so as with all the boots that we have to test we stood in a stream and waited for the water to come in. I'm glad to say that there was no evidence of water inside the boot after a 10 min dunking.

Salomon 3D Lady GTX boot review

we've got a pair of UK size 6 boots to review and the first thing we'll do is the dip test. Standing in water and wallowing in mud! We'll let you know how we get on!

Point 6 Marino Wool Socks:

I kept these for a cold day which is very rare for the Isle of Wight, one of the sunniest places in the UK. The temp was hovering around the zero degrees mark with a light ground frost.  My wife and I both donned the Point 6 socks which while feeling quite light weight made a difference to the feel of our boots and made a snug fit. The socks are well cushioned with a terry loop lining and they are well reinforced at the heel and toes.  They were warm and comfortable to begin with but after a while they became hot and our feet tended to slide on the terry cushioning which caused more heat. On removing the socks my toes were very red and quite sore and my wife had developed a nasty blister on one of her toes. Overall a great pair of socks but more suited to much colder conditions. We will save ours for when we visit the north of the country.

We've had some lovely snow up in North Yorkshire so we've taken the boots out to see how they preform. We used Point 6 Hiking Tech superior merino wool socks.

We've looked at sole grip, lace grip, warmth and how long it takes to dry out naturally afterwards.
